According to a patent Samsung filed with KIPRIS (South Korea's trademarking organisation), it looks like the smartphone manufacturer might move the fingerprint scanner back to the front of the phone in the Galaxy S9 and S9+ flagships next year.
The patent shows a device with a notch at the bottom where the fingerprint scanner is placed. It is possible that Samsung's idea of putting a notch at the bottom was emboldened by Apple and Essential doing the same to the top of their phones.
However, even though this way Samsung will be able to have an Infinity Display on the S9 and a fingerprint scanner on the front, I still think that this idea is... 'notch-so-good'.
