Japanese automaker Lexus has pulled the wraps off a new concept luxury sedan, the LS+, which uses artificial intelligence (AI) to facilitate a fully automated highway driving experience. The car features a virtual assistant system called "Highway Teammate" which will automate functions including lane changing and keeping, merging into highways, overtaking, and maintaining a safe distance between vehicles.
Lexus is confident that AI will propel the adoption of autonomous vehicles in the early 2020s. The company believes that machine learning will help improve road safety and reduce the number of casualties, especially on highways. The technology will also cut down on the problem of congestion as well as drivers' fatigue.
