Google's new payment app for India - Tez - uses data-encoded sounds to connect users for transferring money. In the "Cash Mode," the "Audio QR" technology uses ultrasonic sounds to establish a unique connection between a payer and payee. This allows smooth transactions without sharing sensitive information like bank account or phone numbers.
The technology readily works on any smartphone with a working speaker and mic. Apart from secure direct connections, the app features Tez Shield which detects fraud, spam, and hacking by verifying and protecting the identities of users.
